What – or Who – is the Púca?

A Púca is a mischievous, shape-changing, talkative spirit from Irish folklore. It can appear as a horse, a hare, a dog, a cat or even a human. We have chosen a black cat in honour of our dearly departed Púca, a cat who could not stay out of trouble. Learn more at Atlas Oscura, and in the Schools Collection of the Irish Folklore Commission.

Our Authors

Monica Corish

MONICA CORISH came to writing via the scenic, roundabout route. After studying science, she trained as a nurse, received an MA in International Development Studies, and travelled and worked widely in Africa and
Europe.

She lives in North Leitrim now, in a ‘ritual landscape’ of megaliths and cairns. Her poetry and short fiction have won or been shortlisted for several awards. LeafLight Moon is her first novel.

Tom Sigafoos

Creative nonfiction and short stories by Irish-American author Tom Sigafoos have appeared in The Quiet Quarter Anthology: Ten Years of Great Irish Writingand many literary journals. An early version of Pool of Darkness was shortlisted for the Penny Dreadful Novella Prize.

Tom’s radio memoir An American Scrapbook is posted on SoundCloud. A member of WORD, the Irish Writers’ Centre and the Irish Writers’ Union, he has served as Chair and PRO of the Allingham Arts Association.
